• Dear EMS Community,

It is a pleasure to introduce myself as the new principal of Central Dauphin East Middle School. I am extremely honored and excited to be part of the EMS family! I am also humbled by the opportunity to lead such a dedicated group of teachers and staff who are deeply committed to supporting our students and achieving academic success.

The 2018-19 school year will be my 15th year in public education and 14th year in Central Dauphin School District. I spent eight years in the classroom teaching 7th grade English at Linglestown Middle School before serving five years as an assistant principal at East High School. Most recently, I was appointed Acting Principal at Tri-Community Elementary School in March of 2018.

I graduated from Cumberland Valley High School and received a degree in Secondary Education from Bloomsburg University. While teaching at Linglestown Middle School, I attained a master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Penn State and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University. I also received my K-12 principal certification from Wilkes University in 2012.

My philosophy of leadership is shaped from many years working in public education as a teacher, administrator, and leader in a variety of extracurricular roles. The foundation of my leadership style is strongly rooted in three important principles: respect, teamwork, and communication. It is imperative for the entire East Middle School community to effectively demonstrate these attributes with fidelity—not only in the classroom—but also in the daily operations of our school and the interactions we have with each other.

As principal, my vision for East Middle School is to continue the implementation of technology, strong supports, and effective instructional strategies to increase student achievement. I will facilitate a collaborative working environment where rigor and relationships are highly valued and instilled in the culture of East Middle School. And most importantly, I will continue to foster a school atmosphere where students’ differences and diverse backgrounds are celebrated, respected, and accepted. I firmly believe our diversity is our strength. Through rigorous instruction, high academic and behavior standards, and collaborative relationships, we will prepare our students with the skills necessary for success in academics and in life.

For the 2018-19 school year, I have identified four areas of focus as I transition into this new position:

    • Establish a positive professional relationship and collaborative partnership with members of the Central Dauphin East Middle School community—including students, parents, teachers, support staff, and community members.
    •  Build a foundation for continuous school improvement and professional development by identifying strengths and opportunities for growth in all areas of academics, student supports, and school operations.
    • Promote an environment of positive and safe student behaviors.
    • Foster a collaborative professional learning community focused on increasing student achievement through data-driven instruction.

I am confident we will continue to see growth and improvement in these areas through the combined efforts of everyone engaged in our school community. With great enthusiasm and excitement, I look forward to meeting all of you soon! Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas to share.
