SAP
A Student Assistance Program
The Central Dauphin Middle School has made a commitment to the Pennsylvania Department of Education to provide a Student Assistance Program (SAP). The program is designed to:
- Provide prevention-based activities and programs.
- Accept referrals of students experiencing barriers to learning and school such as alcohol or drug use, depression, anxiety, grief, or other concerns.
- Intervene and refer these students to the appropriate school or community resources. SAP is a prevention and intervention, not a treatment program.
Referral Process
Referrals to the Student Assistance Program may be submitted by teacher, staff, parent, student, or self-referral. A Student Assistance Program link is located on CANVAS Rams Central Page or paper forms are available in the Counseling office. Also, any student that violates the Central Dauphin School District Drug and Alcohol Policy will automatically be referred to the program.
Team Members
The SAP Team is comprised of school administrators, counselors, teachers, the school nurse, psychologist, and other staff. Members of the team have received extensive training and education provided by the PA Department of Education. Program funding is provided by the Federal Safe and Drug Free Schools, Community Act Grant, and school district.
Community agency representatives work closely with the SAP Team. Chemical Dependency Counselors and /or Mental Health Professionals may meet with students referred to the program if parent permission is obtained.
