IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
Attention South Side Parents and Guardians:Please review these important attendance procedures to help prevent unnecessary, unexcused absences for your South Side student! If you would like to review the full CDSD Attendance Policy, you can find it at cdschools.org under Our District/School Board/Policies/Pupils/204 Attendance: http://www.boarddocs.com/pa/cdsd/Board.nsf/Public?open&id=policies#
Quick Reminders:
1. If your student is absent from school, a note with a parent signature MUST be handed in within 3 days of the absence.
2. A parent/guardian signature is needed on the absence note. Calling the school or emailing to say that your student will be absent is kind and considerate, but a NOTE with a WRITTEN SIGNATURE is still needed!
3. To hand a note in, you can:
a. Send it in with your student – please just make sure your student hands it in within 3 days!
b. Fax it: (717)657-9757
c. Take a picture of it and email it to sseattendance@cdschools.org
d. Bring it in yourself
4. Students who have doctor, dentist appointments, etc. should bring a note from the appointment when returning to school. This applies to the student coming in late after a morning appointment, and the student dismissing early for an appointment during the school day.
5. If your student is absent for 3 or more days in a row, a DOCTOR’s NOTE is needed within 3 days of the absence. A parent’s note will not excuse the days.
6. The school doors open at 8:45am. At 9:00am, all students should be in their classrooms ready to learn. Any student not in their classroom by 9:00am will be considered tardy (late) and will report to the office upon entering the building for a tardy slip.
7. If your student is late for school, those minutes can accumulate to school days. Please make sure that if a student is late for school, for any reason, it is covered in the CDSD attendance policy.
8. If you are planning to take an Educational Trip (each student K-5th Grade can have up to 5 approved Educational Trip Days), please stop by the office to get the paperwork and fill it out ahead of time. No Educational Trips will be approved during the PSSA Testing Windows.
9. When in doubt, call and talk to a secretary or Ms. Maugans – Don’t wait! Due to strict Attendance Laws put forth by the state, school districts are required to take aggressive steps to help stop and prevent an accumulation of unexcused absences.
Help us help you, by taking an active approach to your child’s attendance! Have a great 2023-2024 School Year!
